Fragrance Family

A fragrance family is a broad category that groups scents by their dominant character, such as floral, woody, citrus, ambery or chypre.

Families give perfumers, evaluators and brands a shared shorthand for describing a scent before going into detail. There is no single official system: the Société Française des Parfumeurs classification and Michael Edwards' Fragrance Wheel are the most widely referenced, and they draw the lines slightly differently.
