Maceration

Maceration is the resting period after a perfume concentrate is diluted in alcohol, during which the blend settles and harmonises before it is chilled, filtered and bottled.

It typically lasts from a few days to several weeks. Materials react and integrate during this time, so a freshly mixed fragrance often smells sharper or less rounded than the same formula after maceration.
