Licensing a Composition
Licensing a composition means a brand pays to use a perfumer's finished scent in their product, while the perfumer retains ownership and the formula stays confidential.
This differs from commissioning a private-label manufacturer, where a brand typically works with an in-house perfumer and production is bundled into the same relationship. Licensing separates creative work from production, which means a brand isn't locked into one manufacturer to keep working with a perfumer they trust.
